Rooms & Cottages

Stay in the middle of Hathersage

Eight en-suite bedrooms above the pub and two self-catering cottages alongside it. A base for Stanage Edge, the Hope Valley and everything within reach of them.

Where you'll be

Sleep well, eat well

The Little John has eight en-suite bedrooms above the pub and two self-catering cottages beside it, on Station Road in Hathersage. Rooms are bed and breakfast. The cottages are self-catering and suit longer stays. Most rooms are dog friendly, parking is free, and the station is a two minute walk.

People who stay here are rarely here only for the bed. They are here for Stanage Edge at first light, for the walk down to the river, for Castleton and Chatsworth and the long way round. What the Little John gives you is somewhere to come back down to: a fire, a well-kept pint and dinner cooked downstairs without getting in the car.

The rooms are comfortable rather than showy, which is what most people want after a day on the moor. Breakfast comes with them, and cottage guests are welcome to come down for it too.

Why here

Hathersage is the reason

Hathersage sits in the Hope Valley in the Derbyshire Peak District, with Stanage Edge above it and the River Derwent below. Stanage, Higger Tor and Padley Gorge are all walkable or a short drive. Castleton is about six miles west and Chatsworth about nine miles south.

Little John is buried in St Michael's churchyard up the hill, which is where the pub takes its name. The village has a station, a swimming pool, a bookshop and more good places to eat than somewhere this size has any right to.
