The Little John is a village pub with rooms on Station Road in Hathersage, in the Hope Valley. The kitchen serves Monday to Saturday from noon until 9pm, and Sunday from noon until 8pm, straight through with no afternoon break. There are eight en-suite bedrooms above the pub and two self-catering cottages alongside it, free parking on site, and dogs are welcome in the bar and in most of the rooms.

Where is The Little John?

The Little John is on Station Road, Hathersage, Hope Valley, Derbyshire, S32 1DD, in the Peak District. It is a two minute walk from Hathersage station and about ten miles west of Sheffield.

What are your opening hours?

The bar is open every day from noon until midnight.

Is there parking?

Yes, free parking on site for diners and overnight guests alike.

Do I need to book?

You are welcome to walk in and there is usually room in the bar. Booking is sensible for dinner at a weekend and strongly recommended for Sunday lunch, which regularly sells out.

Are you dog friendly?

Very. Dogs are welcome in the bar, in the beer garden, in both cottages and in most of the bedrooms. There are water bowls as standard and biscuits behind the bar.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome throughout the pub. Smaller portions are available at the Sunday carvery.

Eating and drinking

What time is food served?

The kitchen serves Monday to Saturday from noon until 9pm, and Sunday from noon until 8pm, straight through with no afternoon break.

How much is the Sunday carvery?

The Sunday carvery is £16.95, including locally reared meats, homemade gravy, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables, roast potatoes, creamy mash and cauliflower cheese. Pigs in blankets are £3.95 extra.

Do you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes. Every menu carries vegetarian and vegan dishes, including a butternut squash and pearl onion tart tatin, a vegan aubergine Parmigiana and a vegan feta sandwich. Dietary markings are shown against each dish.

Can you cater for allergies?

Please tell your server about any allergies or intolerances when you order, or ask to see our allergens guide. The kitchen will talk you through what is possible.

Do you serve food all afternoon?

Yes. The kitchen serves straight through from noon, with no break between lunch and dinner: until 9pm Monday to Saturday, and until 8pm on Sunday.

Staying

What accommodation do you have?

The Little John has eight en-suite bedrooms above the pub and two self-catering cottages alongside it. Bedrooms are bed and breakfast; the cottages are self-catering and suit longer stays.

Is breakfast included?

Breakfast is included with the bedrooms and served downstairs in the pub. The cottages are self-catering, though you are welcome to come down for breakfast.

Can I bring my dog to stay?

Yes. Both cottages are dog friendly and so are most of the bedrooms. Please mention your dog when you book so we put you in a room that takes them.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is from mid-afternoon until 10pm, and check-out is mid-morning. We are not able to check anybody in after 10pm, so if you are coming off a long walk or a long drive, please plan to arrive in good time.

Groups and functions

Do you have a function room?

Yes. There is a refurbished function room for up to 35 people, used for birthdays, wakes and christenings, with the kitchen and bar behind it.

Can you host a wake?

Yes, and we do so often. Tell us roughly what you need and we will keep it simple and take the arrangements off your hands.

Can large groups eat together?

Up to about 35 can sit together in the function room. Beyond that we can still look after you, but the group would be spread across the snug, the bar and the taproom, so call us on 01433 650225 and we will talk it through.
